Connector Motorways is the owner and operator of two integral sections of Sydney’s road network.

Connector Motorways is responsible for the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of:

  • Lane Cove Tunnel, a 3.6 km twin tunnel motorway beneath Epping Road, linking the M2 Motorway at North Ryde with the Gore Hill Freeway at Artarmon
  • Military Road E-Ramps comprising two north-facing ramps connecting the Warringah Expressway in North Sydney with Falcon Street and Military Road, providing access to the widened Gore Hill Freeway.

Opened in March 2007, these toll roads are fully electronic, avoiding the stopping, slowing and lane changing associated with cash toll booths.

Connector Motorways’ role in this project also involved the financing, design and construction of associated improvements to existing surface roads and intersections, including:

  • widening 3 km of the Gore Hill Freeway to six lanes, with the addition of a transit lane in each direction
  • improved public transport facilities, including the introduction of dedicated bus lanes
  • a 7.5 km continuous shared cycle and pedestrian path from Wicks Road, North Ryde to Naremburn
  • changes to Epping Road, including the reinstatement of two right hand turning lanes along Epping Road.

Design and construction of the roads took into account community, environmental and safety factors to produce infrastructure that not only saves time and kilometres, but also delivers benefits to its users and the surrounding environment.

Lane Cove Tunnel

The Lane Cove Tunnel is a 3.6 km twin tunnel motorway under Epping Road that links the M2 Motorway at North Ryde with the Gore Hill Freeway at Artarmon.

The Lane Cove Tunnel delivers a number of benefits:

  • Quicker travel times between the north-west and the city
  • Electronic tolling that avoids cash booths
  • Bypass of five sets of traffic lights, both east- and westbound, along Epping Road
  • Substantially improved local air quality with reduced traffic volumes on Epping Road
  • A direct link to Sydney's expanding orbital motorway network.

Military Road E - Ramps

The Military Road E-Ramps provide direct access to the Warringah Freeway and Gore Hill Freeway.

There are two tolled north-facing ramps: one northbound, heading onto the Warringah Freeway at Falcon Street and Military Road in Neutral Bay; and one southbound, heading from the Warringah Freeway onto Military Road.

The northbound tolled ramp allows motorists to bypass up to 19 sets of traffic lights along the Pacific Highway from the lower north shore to the upper north shore and the M2 Motorway and vice versa.

The Military Road E-Ramps deliver a number of benefits:

  • Quicker travel times between Neutral Bay and Artarmon
  • Electronic tolling that avoids cash booths
  • Bypass of up to 19 sets of traffic lights along the Pacific Highway
  • A direct link to Sydney's expanding orbital motorway network.
